Emad Meteb's proposed transfer to Bristol City could be on the rocks. The Robins are willing to pay a club record £1.5 million for the 25-year-old Egyptian international striker, one of the rising stars of African football. But disagreements over payment of the fee are now threatening to wreck the deal. City are proposing to pay the money in three instalments, but Egyptian first division club El-Ahly are now demanding the cash up front in a single payment. Egyptian agent Ahmed Al-Rifai is acting as a mediator between the Red Devils and City. He told north African football website FilGoal.com: "Ahly want to receive the full transfer fee immediately or the deal is off." Sources within Ashton Gate have confirmed the deal may stall and have blamed Ahly officials for 'moving the goalposts'.

Bristol City will play two friendly matches during next month's pre-season tour to Portugal. Manager Gary Johnson is taking his first-team squad to a luxury training camp on the Algarve from July 15-20. Last season's beaten Championship play-off finalists have arranged warm-up games against Portuguese non-league side Grupo Desportivo Lagoa and Third Division club Sporting Clube Farense.

Bristol City midfielder Nick Carle will complete his £1million move to Crystal Palace tomorrow. The Australian, 26, joined City only in January from Turkish club Genclerbirligi for £500,000. But he failed to hold down a first-team place and has agreed a threeyear deal at Selhurst Park after passing a medical. City boss Gary Johnson has already replaced Carle with Gavin Williams from Ipswich and will step up his bid for a new striker this week.
